3 Topical Ways to Use Turmeric

Updated: Jul 28, 2020

I’m sure you’ve heard about the benefits of Turmeric but weren’t totally sure what they were.

We’re here to help you get the low down on the benefits of Turmeric. With its vibrant deep yellow coloring in its dry form to the almost carrot like orange in its fresh state.

Turmeric has been used for many centuries for dying clothing, hair, cosmetics and food. It has been used in many curry dishes to add the classic golden yellow color we’re all used to. But did you know that using Turmeric topically can reduce dark circles, acne scarring and discoloration on the skin as a result of its anti-inflammatory (reduces inflammation or swelling) and antioxidant (“Compounds that inhibit oxidation).

Oxidation is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals, thereby leading to chain reactions that may damage the cells of organisms.” – source: Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antioxidant properties.

Here’s 3 ways to use Turmeric on your skin:

1. Face mask: Add 1 tsp of Turmeric to your fav. clay mask or make your own face mask with fresh or dry Turmeric.

Homemade clay mask Ingredients:

2-3 tbsp. of yogurt or goats milk or almond milk

1 tsp of turmeric (fresh or dry)

Egg white (from 1 egg)

¼ of oatmeal

1 tsp raw honey or maple syrup

Directions: Mix all ingredients together. Should have a paste consistency. Thick but not too thick. Apply all over face/neck minus your eyes and mouth. Leave on for 15 minutes or until it’s fully dry. Wash with warm water and soap. Mask should be applied at least 3 times a week for best results.

This mask will help with dark circles under the eyes and skin discoloration.

2. Acne/pimple spot treatment: Take raw honey and a dash of Turmeric and make a paste. Take a Q-tip, dip in mixture and apply to pimple. Leave on for 30 minutes then wash with your favorite face bar. Use as needed.

3. Body Wash: Our Mellow Body Bar includes dry and fresh Turmeric. Use daily to rejuvenate your skin. https://www.atumskincare.com/product-page/mellow-bar

There are many ways you can use Turmeric on your skin however the 3 ways we’ve included is the starter kit for Turmeric use. Please note that Turmeric can turn everything yellow (but will wash away and does not stain if washed immediately). When making masks we suggest you wear clothing you don’t mind getting stained.

Turmeric is a natural ingredient that has remarkable proven benefits for your skin. We’d love to know how you use Turmeric in your skincare routine, email us at info@atumskincare.com or DM us on Instagram to get in touch.
